In science we have been studying all about George Washington Carver. He was a man that helped farmers learn about crop rotation and he discovered many uses for the peanut and sweet potato (even shampoo and ice cream!). Once we had researched a little about him we made PowerPoints as teams and will get to share them tomorrow. Each student took home a print out of their PowerPoint today, so you should ask to see it if they haven't pulled it out yet.
In math we have been introducing all of the concepts that we will be focusing on all year long. One of the activities was to write numbers on a number strip. Some students made it to the 600's! Wow!

Typing Club has also been a fun experience for the kids. Watch this short movie about the "rules" that the kids thought were the most important to remember when typing. =-)

Typing club has been a great experience. Are they still going to be able to practice some of these skills at school after typing club is over? It would be a shame if they forgot everything they have learned.

Thanks for the great comment Ana. The answer to your question is yes, we will be continuing to practice at school. Students have the opportunity 3 days a week to be on the computers for 15 minutes a day during centers. Once the second group gets underway and starts working with the program we will be able to plug in typing practice during our centers time.
Students will also have multiple opportunities to start typing their writing, doing reports on the computer, and blogging - all with their newly acquired typing skills =-)
